Further Article 8 and late-claim reforms proposed

The government has tabled two amendments to the Immigration and Asylum Bill covering family-life evidence under Article 8 and the treatment of late immigration or asylum claims.

What this means for you

These are proposed changes, not current rules. Do not change an application or legal decision on the basis of the announcement alone; check the Bill's progress and get regulated advice for an individual case.

New work flexibility for recognised modern-slavery victims

Recognised modern-slavery victims on Skilled Worker visas can now leave an abusive sponsor and take other lawful work for the remainder of their visa.

What this means for you

The change applies after formal recognition as a victim of modern slavery. Anyone at risk should use official support and regulated advice rather than approaching an abusive employer alone.

Awaab's Law protections proposed for more rented homes

The government is consulting on extending time limits for fixing serious hazards to private rented homes and some other housing settings.

What this means for you

This is a consultation, not a new private-renting deadline yet. Continue reporting hazards in writing and use current council, tenancy and emergency routes while the proposal is considered.

HealthcareAnnouncement

New national breast-cancer information partnership announced

The government and Breast Cancer Now have announced a partnership to improve trusted information on possible symptoms and support after treatment.

What this means for you

This is an information and support initiative. Anyone worried about a symptom should contact their GP or NHS 111 rather than wait for a campaign update.

Independent regulation planned for property agents

The government intends to require property agents to be licensed and appropriately qualified, with an independent regulator overseeing standards and complaints.

What this means for you

This is not in force yet. Renters and homebuyers should continue using existing complaint routes while further details are developed.
